The pinstripe suit is often called the power suit, because of its association in film and television. Lawyers, CEOs and mafia figures wear pinstripes. However, today’s suiting trends call for a more casual style. As such, the power suit may no longer be a flex, but it remains a great look.
Vertical stripes add length to your physique, making you appear taller. When worn as a full suit with high-waisted trousers, this really creates a striking presence, especially when you choose a pencil stripe like Kingsman OP 2187, shown above. Pencil stripes stand out more than the typical pinstripe when woven with a contrasting stripe color. If you prefer a deeper hue, consider our Armoury OP 2186 in dark blue and Signet OP 2185 in charcoal.
To dress down the pencil stripe, try wearing the jacket as a separate with a polo tee or with casual shirting material like chambray. If you’re wearing it as a full suit, tone it down with a T-shirt and design your suit for a more relaxed fit. You can also try using our Armoury OP 2186 fabric (below), which is in a deep indigo shade and looks almost like denim.
These three fabrics have the handle of a classic English cloth, with a softer touch and are crease resistant. The versatility of these pencil stripe fabrics make them ideal for travel, so you just need to pack one suit for multiple looks.
For a more modern take on the classic pinstripe, we’ve created our latest pinstripes with red or green stripes on deep blues. Rather than stick with the traditional white stripe, these take away the severity of the traditional pinstripe suit but keep its formality.
Winnowill OP2101 and Blarney Stone OP2102 are lighter plain weaves made in Italy, that are also water and stain repellent as well as crease resistant. Ideal for the gentleman on the go, these are truly versatile performance fabrics for your next suit, whether you plan to be in the boardroom or get stuck outside on a rainy day.
The bold color stripes stand out and make it easy to dress your pinstripe jacket up or down, worn as a full or broken suit. Use softer green or red tones to accentuate the suit, or stick to a white shirt sans tie, to nail that semi-formal style.
Whatever your style or fabric preference, our Eco-Evolution fabrics have a sartorial pinstripe option for your enjoyment.
